What is an ash pump?

The working medium of ash pump is the mixture of water and ash, which is very serious to metal wear and corrosion. After the pressure is increased by the impeller, the ash will leak from the shaft seal or accumulate at the dynamic and static clearance of the shaft seal, resulting in wear and corrosion. In order to prevent this phenomenon, the ash pump needs to be filled with shaft seal water.

Function of ash pump

The ash pump is used to transport the mixture of ash and water discharged from the boiler of the power plant to the ash storage yard.
From the use of ash pump, it belongs to slag slurry pump, and the common models are Z-type, ZGB type and ZJ type. See times pump for details.
The ash conveyed by the ash pump must be crushed to less than 25mm by the slag crusher. Since the worn parts must be repaired or replaced frequently, the pump must be equipped.

The shaft seal water is injected into the shaft seal with clean water higher than the ash pressure in the pump. The shaft seal water can flow into the pump to prevent the ash from overflowing from the shaft seal, so that the shaft and shaft seal will not be worn and corroded. The shaft seal water shall also be introduced between the pump shell and the internal armor of the ash pump to prevent ash from entering the gap between the inner armor and the shell. The ash pump is used to boost the mixture of ash particles and water and send it to the ash yard through the pressure transmission pipeline. The leakage of shaft seal water of ash pump is mainly caused by improper use of shaft seal water or insufficient water pressure during operation, as well as random shutdown of shaft seal water.
The reasons for insufficient output and unstable operation of ash pump are as follows:

  • 1) Wear of impeller and sheath;
  • 2) Equipment vibration;
  • 3) Leakage of shaft seal;
  • 4) The passage is blocked.

Vibration fault analysis of ash pump

  • 1) Unbalanced vibration caused by uneven wear of impeller;
  • 2) The water level in the inlet ash pond or ash ditch is too low, so that the water inlet of the pump is insufficient, and the air enters to produce water impact;
  • 3) The clearance between the impeller and the sheath or guard plate is small, resulting in vibration caused by mutual friction when the shaft moves in series;
  • 4) Vibration caused by large bearing wear clearance;
  • 5) Vibration caused by misalignment of coupling center between impeller rotor and motor;
  • 6) Vibration caused by poor foundation construction quality, loose anchor screws or insufficient strength cut.
